About Us

Our cats come from tested lines and are tested once for PKD & PK def. and for HCM & CIN according to Pawped's recommendation.

1. GSD-IV (Glycogen Storage Disease IV) - note: GSD4 is a disorder inherited as an autosomal recessive trait, so two GSD IV N/N (negative, healthy) cats will have only N/N (negative) kittens. 
2. Pyruvate Kinase (PK) Deficiency - note: PK def. is inherited as an autosomal recessive condition, so two PK def. N/N (negative, healthy) cats will have only N/N (negative) kittens. 
3. PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease) - note: PKD is an inherited kidney disease, cysts are present from birth. Most easily diagnosed by ultrasound, which can identify the disease very early in its course. Currently there is NO approved DNA test for PKD in Norwegian Forest Cats. PKD can be diagnosed only by ultrasound scan.
4. HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy) - note: currently there is NO approved DNA test for HCM in Norwegian Forest Cats. HCM can be diagnosed only by regular ultrasound heart screening (echocardiography). 
5. CIN (Chronic Interstitial Nephritis) - note: testing for CIN may be done via an ultrasound scan of the kidneys. Because this disease can appear at any age, it is recommended that multiple ultrasounds be done to screen for CIN.
